Tadashi Ishikawa

(石川匡), Ph.d.

Welcome to A Historian at the Margins! My name is Tadashi Ishikawa. I am an assistant professor in the Department of History at the University of Central Florida. I received a Ph.D. from the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago.

This website delves into my historical research, teaching, and life concerning people in the margins of their families, social norms, and national borders across the Asia-Pacific region.

I study twentieth-century Japan and its connections to other parts of Asia with a focus on empire, family and gender, law, mobility, and the Cold War. My teaching centers on students with various backgrounds to develop communciation skills they can take away for their acdamic, professional, and personal life. Born and educated in Japan, I have viewed my journey to the United States as up side and down while being caught in various barriers, something I want to share with Japanese audience in particular.

I invite you to explore my insights and to discover the excellence in the areas of history and interdisciplinary studies while finding a Japanese scholar’s life in Florida meaningful to you. I believe your journey through history should reflect your own voice, as we historians strive to make each discussion relatable.
